The Challenge of a Lifetime30/04/2011
In October this year Monica Chipperfield is setting off on an adventurous 18 day trek along the most famous Everest base camp route!
In Monica's words: "This is a challenge that promises to push me both mentally and physically, and after 18 months of more or less no exercise it is going to be a quite a feat!"
"I will be walking over 120km in some of the most difficult terrain in the world set against the beautiful backdrops of Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. Each day of the trek I will be walking non stop, at high altitude, for 8-10 hrs. And after a grueling 18 days I will peak at Base camp at 17493.4383ft!
"Why would I put my body through this I hear you say? Well, I hope to raise over £3200 for The Patrick Evans Foundation, a charity set up in the name of my daughter's close friend, Patrick Evans. The charity sets out to help the bereaved, and create healthy sporting opportunities for young people; I could not think of a better way to sum up the charity and Patrick's memory in true spirit of challenge and inspiration!"
